ALL TEACHERS AND STAFF AT THE EASTERN KUNG FU ACADEMY HAVE “WORKING WITH CHILDREN” PERMITS
At Eastern Kung Fu, our extremely active children’s program is specifically structured to meet the progressive needs of today’s youth. This class structure is designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 yrs. We have often seen children thrown in the deep end, trying to learn an adult kung fu structure. This can end in the child feeling discouraged and unhappy. We feel they need a teaching system more specifically designed just for them. We even provide a free bottle of water for every student, just to keep your most precious assets properly hydrated.
The proven effective, Young Dragon’s Syllabus (10 levels) spends more time on Kung Fu education and lifestyle coaching than just breeding new thugs and bullies. We have a 100% strict ZERO TOLERANCE ON BULLIES policy. Our Young Dragons must be and feel safe to be themselves.
Our system also include a mid-year and end of year grading system. We see it as a mid year and end of year report system for them. So we and they can see where they are in their development. This allows us to work with the children in areas they are having problems with or need more attention on.
Many of the activities in class are educationally based games designed to make the children move in specific ways needed for Kung Fu. Children also need to have fun, so we always finish each class with an activity game. Poison ball is definitely the Young Dragons’ favourite. So much so that we include a Poison ball championship in our annual tournament day.
We also have an ‘Advanced class’ for children who show an interest in continuing their training in a greater capacity. This class is by Sifu Peter’s invitation only. Students must show their diligence in training and attendance before they are admitted to this class.
While we put little focus on tournament results over their continued training, we are please to have produced State/National competitors and champions. We use tournament training as a tool to teach a simple moral. ”Winning and losing is not as important as having a go and doing your best.” Plus it’s always fun to represent your school in a tournament.
